Comments: My Great Friends,
On February 22, 1970 in Lubbock, Texas I attended my first live professional-level rock concert. I had come to see Steppenwolf and was not expecting to be completely blown away by the opening act. Bubble Puppy was pure musical joy to this budding musician and fan. I have maintained a life-long pride that I saw The Puppy at the top of it's form. I played professionally in Austin in the mid-'70's and continued to hear mysterious stories of the whereabouts of the group. It took years to find TWO copies of "A Gathering Of Promises" [from Inner Sanctum Records right there in Austin]. It is one of my all-time favorite record albums.Thank you for some of the greatest musical memories. I'm still inspired!

---- Dan Hanson (now a music professor and aging rocker at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma)

Comments: I moved to Texas in 1970 and attended Baylor University. I arrived with a old SG and a black Kuston stack and an old Crown Bass Amp. At that time I was hooked on Quicksilver and the Amboid Dukes. Even played in the warm up spot for Amboid Dukes and the Lemon Pipers (remember those guys?) at the Rainy Daze Club in Chesterfield Missouri (outside St. Louis). Anyway, while at Baylor and good Texas Rock and Roller (Now Dr. Gary White) introduced me to Bubble Puppy. Since then I have been a life long fan. When and where is the next gig?

Comments: God bless the Internet. I put your name in a search engine, for kicks. Up your site came!! Fantastic.... I enjoyed your music as a student at Texas A&M in the early seventies. I had a girl down in SA; we would go see you and dance to your music at some teeny bopper hang out in the country side surrounding SA... I'll never forget you rippin' those guitar licks... man, them were the days. And my girlfriend was the ultimate groupie.... she would have done any one of you right on the stage, as she frequently reminded me. (She saved it for me and unfortunately, for about half the rest of the Greater San Antonio area while I was up at school!!)

Rock on dudes.... I can't believe this. Bubby Puppy lives!!! I'm 20 again!!!!

Comments: I used to sneak my sisters ""Hot Smoke" album into my room just to dive into the title track..I also think "Road to St. Stephens" is a kick..So many lesser bands of the era received more publicity and credit for their role in developing an accesible "psychedelic pop" sound. Melodic, adventurous, and well played. You never came to my hometown of Laredo, Texas, so I hold out on a small hope that you'll at least re-group and play in San Antonio, which is a short two hour drive..I agree with other guests that "Hot Smoke" is absolutely one of the best rock and roll songs ever..and it pisses me off that the "oldies" stations I've heard don't play it.....Bubble Puppy Lives!!

Comments: Hot Smoke & Sassafras changed my life! How's that for a salutation.

I've been exchanging e-mail with Goldy for a little over a year. He sent me CDs with some of the old group and I just visited his web site and found your e-mail address.

I'm a professor of chemistry at a University now but still very much a musician at heart. I played professionally (starving, any gig for
a buck) for 10 years before giving up. I still play and do record sessions for local bands in Columbia, SC (home of hootie and the
blowholes).

I'll never forget the first time I heard HS&S, I was maybe 13. I was just getting interested in music and heard a lot of beatles, etc, and
loving it. You know the stuff that was playing during that time. Then one day my older brother brought home a stack of records and
HS&S was in it. He didn't care for it, too old at the time to appreciate it. When I first played it I couldn't believe my ears. It was an epiphany. I played hell out of that record, wish I still
had the single. Very few other songs have effected me as much,
Strawberry Fields, Whole Lotta Love, The Pusher, Born to be Wired,
etc. This isn't even a fiar comparison though because HS&S had a
unique effect, it changed how I viewed music and probably is one of the reasons I became a musician. I could hear the raw power and
rebellion in it and I loved it. I was too young to follow your career and couldn't afford albums then. Only recently have I heard many of your old songs. Methedrine blues, what an intro-killer bass! I think Ted Nugent stole "Lonely" when he released "journey to the
center of the mind" with the amboy dukes.

Your records live on in my PCs and CD players. I have several copies of HS&S on various CDs that I travel with. Absolutely one of my all-time favorites and a song that was light-years ahead of it's time. I'm listening to it as I type.

The guitar is as great today as ever. The timing--wow! What were you on when you wrote it? Whatever, it worked.

Thank you for recording HS&S!!! I hope to meet you some day.
Take care.

Mike Angel

High in 1967. From there I enrolled in UT, and
a student there, frequented the Vulcan Gas Co.
somewhat regularly and fondly remember those days
listening to Bubble Puppy. You were one of my
favorite bands during that time. It was great
discovering your website tonite as I was surfing
various Austin websites to assist a friend from
Massachusetts in beginning a search for homes for
the purpose of relocating to the Lone Star State.
I have lived in Dallas since 1970, but return to
Austin frequently to visit family and friends from
my high school days.

Comments: Great website guys! I wish I could see the Bubble Puppy play live someday again. I saw you guys way back in 1970 in Amarillo, Texas. It was my first concert. Over the years I have managed to acquire all the Bubble Puppy records, cds, and B.P. related groups. I have the four Bubble Puppy singles with non-album B sides, in mint condition too. And last week, after watching the internet, and Ebay in particular, I finally found a new cd copy of Sirius, Rising. That was a hell of a kick! Any and all Bubble Puppy fans should e-mail me at rival231@home.com. Later, Scott Burgan.

Comments: Greetings from the Rio Grande Valley! Yes, many moons have passed since my band and I would pile in my 65 Mustang and drive all the way from Harlingen to McAllen (all of 35 miles)to catch the show. We watched a great band and still talk about to this day. I remember a band that knew the art of dynamics. Each song took you up and down and up again and by the end of the evening you knew you had seen a great show. Not glitzy, just real. Yes, we were a few of the guys that hung around after the show to maybe get a chance to talk "shop" with a band we really respected. And when we did speak with you I remember how easy going and polite you were to us. Kustom Amps as big as a freezer, ES-335,(sorry you broke it) long songs and a passion for the music you just don't see anymore. I don't think I missed a show in McAllen. (including Demian) Thanks for some great music. Thanks you Bubble Puppy! ( and Todd, the Strawberry Shoemakers, too)

Comments: Hello, Puppies. I was web browsing at work tonight and came upon your web page - it sure brought back some great memories. I never got to see you in concert, but I did get to meet a couple of you at a motel in Carthage, Tx. I think it was in 1972. We invited you to our room to party with us. We smoked a couple of J's, played "Hot Smoke" on the stereo to let ya'll know we were fans and talked a while. You guys were very nice and polite, but I think a little road weary, and didn't stay long. But it is a memory I'll always cherish. I'll never understand why your music didn't get the recognition it deserved - you guys rocked! I plan on buying 2 copies of your new CD. The second copy I'm going to send to a local rock station and urge them to play it.

album featuring Hot Smoke and Sassafras. I purchased
it about 23 years ago. It is in mint condition
and kept in a protective jacket to preserve it.
Recently, I went to a record and tape show. There were
two vendors with copies of the same album, however,
no where near as good of shape as mine. One vendor
said I could get $100 for it easily. This album is
priceless. I will never sell it!!

Comments: Hi guys!
What's happin' back home? It's cold as hell in Indy. About 20 right now. The snow IS melting, unfortunately it's from the hell fire and brimstone I'm cussin' at it. It would never do it own it's own. I was home for Christmas and didn't have time to do squat. I'm gonna have to make a SPECIAL trip down just for ME. Maybe even by my self! Sure would be good to hear some good ole Texas jam. I talked to Todd and he had fun with Rusty Weir closing down some pizza place "open mike" night. God I miss those kinds of places, and nights. I'm still waitin' for a ROAD TOUR. OK how 'bout if I just let you play in my livin' room and we can invite the neighbors? I feel sure the local blues bar downtown in Indy would LOVE to have you. It's called the Slippery Noodle. It ain't no Armadillo but it ain't bad. Chicago anyone? I'll drive there. KC? Cinnci? I can do St.Louis too! Hell, how 'bout Dallas? If it's gonna happen, I'd like to at LEAST know about it. Got it? Tell Todd to call me.
Later guys, I was just a little homesick. It was good talkin' AT you guys. You know what the "Bud" man says, "I love you man!"
Later,
Randy

Here's what I've been up to. I have made it through the cutting room and appear in the feature film MISS CONGENIALITY starring Sandra Bullock,
Candice Bergen, Benjamin Bratt, Michael Caine, and William Shatner. Look for me right after the scene where all the pageant girls are helping
Sandra put on her make-up. The transition scene goes to Bass Concert Hall. I'm the guy in the blue dress coat and white cowboy hat, center screen,
pointing as I walk with two women towards the theatre steps. I'm also visible in two other scenes. See if you can find me! I'm also in two more
upcoming feature films, AMERICAN OUTLAWS and THE NEW GUY.

Have a great BluesRockin' New Year!

Comments: Tonight I plugged "Bubble Puppy" into the search engine at Google.com, and what should I find but that there are many web pages devoted to your band!
It's nice to see that your legacy lives on :) Many
thanks to the countless hours I was fortunate enough to have been able to hear you perform -- from your magical performance in 1968 at Austin's Wooldridge Park to the thirteen times (at least) I
was able to catch you at the legendary Vulcan Gas Company! You guys blew me away thirty years ago, and your music still blows me away today! All the best yo you all -- David, Rod, Todd and Roy!!!

Love to you..

Comments: I've just recently picked up the "A Gathering of Promises" a few days ago. Wow! Incredible album. I love it, it has such a great mix of pretty melodies and harmonies with cool groovin' bluesy/jazzy rock. Its Byrds meets the Hendrix Experience meets Blue Cheer meets Cream meets the Gratefull Dead. Top notch musicianship and song writing. Very cool progressive rock. Its a shame that its kind of an obscurity now. It deserves to be noticed on a grand scale. Peace!

Comments: Good to see your web site. I saw you in 69 or 70
in Fort Worth. One thing puzzles me , there is no mention of Demian .I have played that album through out the years and stil enjoy it today, my son learned to play several guitar solos from it.I found a CD of it on the internet ,although it is probably a boot leg. Please release that album as a CD, I viewed that album as refined Bubble Puppy that can Face the Crowd.
A loyal fan of BP and Demian

Comments: Yes! I did it. I confess. I have been spreading the word. I think Lori said it best "Let the smoke rise again!" Everyone is so thrilled to the possibilities that might arise out of the "Smoke"! Best of luck my friends. I also put you a link from the IndianaHarleyRiders Club membership info. Just think, if 1 out of 10 that bought the original "Promises" album bought an update...you'll do fine. The music speaks for itself. The musicians may be forced into "working" again. We, the listeners, can only hope for the best. A midwest TOUR sounds like a great way to start. As I recall, Chicago was pretty good to you. (except for being cold and windy) Seems like a full length coat was bought by someone who didn't bring a jacket or something? You guys are something. (or is it somethingelse?)
More to come...Later...Randy (keep in touch)

Comments: Amazing, this internet! I was just a kid when I heard "Hot Smoke" on the radio in Michigan. Blew me away! In true AM radio style, they didn't announce who it was by, and because they were more interested in playing commercial stuff (like who at the time, Tony Orlando or some itshay?) they didn't play cool cuts that often. More "Bubble Gum" than "Bubble Puppy". Never did know who the song that was talking about "Sassafras" was by! At least, not until YEARS later. By then, most record stores hadn't a clue as to what I was talking about. "Whoa, Bubble who?"...so here I was confined to this mystery. Until the net. No kidding, that's a great song! Holds up to this day, with the Moody-Bluesesque harmony vocals and that razor sharp guitar. Rock on!
